CRAFTS HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE (PALEO)
/Joshua and I have decided to begin a Paleo lifestyle journey to heal his body from his autoimmune disease from the inside out. His health has been up and down for the past few months, even on his new medication, and we are really excited for the changes we have already made with eating. Some of his symptoms are already completely gone, and others are simply getting better everyday.
This will be our first Thanksgiving Paleo, and we are not wanting to sacrifice on taste, or all of the cherished traditions and recipes.
Being from New England, cranberries are near and dear to my heart. I grew up playing in and hunting around the cranberry bogs with my dad, and they are nostalgic for me. So, Cranberry Sauce is always one of my favorite parts of our Thanksgiving meal. I was not going to let Paleo hinder us from putting a small piece of my home on our table this year.
CRAFTS HOMEMADE CRANBERRY SAUCE (PALEO)
PREP TIME: 5 minutes | COOK TIME: 15-20 minutes
1 bag of raw Cranberries (12 ounces)
1/2 cup Organic Apple Cider (No sugar added)
1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger
1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4-1/2 cup Real Maple Syrup (Sorry Aunt Jemima, you didn’t make the cut at our table this year)
I - Wash Cranberries and pull out any soggy or mushy ones. Pour into a 3-quart pot, and add Apple Cider, Ground Ginger, Ground Cinnamon, and Sea Salt.
II - Cover and cook on medium for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. (The BEST part of making homemade Cranberry Sauce is listening to the cranberries pop like popcorn in the pan as they heat up! Listen for it!)
III - Reduce to medium low heat, and mash the Cranberries. Keep stirring to keep from burning.
IV - At this point, the Cranberry Sauce will be very tangy. Add Real Maple Syrup to get desired sweetness. Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the liquid has been cooked off and the sauce thickens again. Keep stirring.
V - Remove from heat, and serve!
You can serve this recipe hot or cold, but I personally prefer it hot, as it brings out the flavors more in my opinion! For storing, please keep it refrigerated.
I hope that this recipe brings a little piece of New England to your home this year like it will ours, and that you gather well with those you love most around your table. May you eat intentionally, and be satisfied first in the Lord in all you do.
Sweet blessings-
